San Jacinto Day – Monday, April 21, 2008, 11 a.m.


The official San Jacinto Day Ceremony, celebrating the 172nd anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto will be held at the San Jacinto Monument on Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m.  This year's master of ceremonies is Ron Stone, Jr., the keyonte speaker is Dr. Frank de la Teja.  The program also includes a musical prelude by the La Porte High School Wind Ensemble, DRT/SRT scholarship winners, Sam Houston IV reading the battle report, the Texas Army firing a black powder salute, presentation of enlisted sailor's awards to enlisted sailors from the USS Texas (SSN-775) and USS San Jacinto (CG-56), and more.

San Jacinto Festival and Battle Reenactment - Saturday, April 26, 208, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Celebrate the battle that won Texas' independence in 1836.  The Festival is complete with live music and entertainment, children's activities, living history camps, craft demonstrations, food vendors, and much more.  In the afternoon, hundreds of historical reenactors gather at the San Jacinto Battleground to stage the state's largest battle reenactment.

Recent conservation efforts will be on display in the San Jacinto Museum of History, located in the base of the Monument.  Precious artifacts that have been recently restored and newly acquired documents will be on display during the Festival.  Included in the special exhibit are three 19th century uniforms, a 19th century rifle used by Jesse Walling who served under Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto, several printed items showing the Mexican view of the Texas Revolution and other historical items.

Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon – March 29, 2008

The 2008 Annual Meeting saw several new members and members who returned after a long absence from past San Jacinto Descendants' events.  The keynote speaker featured Dr. Frank de la Teja, Texas State Historian and Chairman of the Department of History at Texas State University.  Dr. de la Teja spoke on "Tejanos at San Jacinto."

Founders' Memorial Park, Dedication Ceremony - August 25, 2007, Houston, Texas

Founders' Memorial Park is the final resting place of at least 31 veterans of the Battle of San Jacinto along with numerous other persons living in Texas at the time of the revolution and other notable Texas citizens.

Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon – March 31, 2007

The 2007 annual meeting featured the election of new officers for March 2, 2007 through March 1, 2009.  The keynote address featured James Haley, the 2007 recipient of the San Jacinto Award.  Mr. Haley's presentation was, "Houston's Fight, Seguin's Legacy: A Shared Heritage of the Texas Revolution."
