2019 Annual Meeting Update The San Jacinto Descendants 2019 Annual Meeting is less than three months away. It is still scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Galveston but we have selected a great venue. We are meeting at the Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant (2200 Harborside Drive, Galveston, TX 77550) near the Strand for the annual meeting and Awards lunch. The business meeting will start at 10:00 am followed by the lunch at noon. Afterwards we will be given a VIP tour of the J. P. Bryan Museum, considered one of the best Texas History museums in the world ($12.00 Admission). Additionally, our guest speaker is Dr. Carolina Crimm, a highly recognized authority on Texas History. Her topic will be very pertinent to our members – “Land Grants for San Jacinto Veterans: The Horrors of Land Scrip and the General Land Office” We have not set up any special deals with local hotels for our out of town guests but below is a list of several that are close to our venue: The Tremont House – (409) 763-0300
Double Tree by Hilton – (409) 762-4141
LaQuinta Inn Galveston East – (409) 763-1224 In March you will receive the Annual Meeting mailout that will allow you to register for our meeting and lunch as well as pay annual dues and purchase SJD merchandise. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2019 Annual Meeting and Lunch Maurice Stokes

50 weeks ago by The San Jacinto DescendantsCongratulations to Jim Bevill as the 2018 recipient of the San Jacinto Award given by the San Jacinto Descendants organization. This award is presented to an adult citizen of the State of Texas who has demonstrated a commitment to preserving Texas history and who possesses the highest level of patriotism, leadership, and service to the State of Texas and their local community. Members of the San Jacinto Descendants are not eligible for this award.50 weeks ago
I totally agree but I do object to referring this to the the same Annual Meeting event and date. I was there, Jim was elsewhere do it had to be staged later on.50 weeks ago The San Jacinto Descendants 1
SJD President Maurice Stokes arranged for the presentation to be at the May 3rd SRT San Jacinto Chapter Monthly meeting due to a conflict that arose with April 14th Annual Luncheon.
51 weeks ago by The San Jacinto Descendants2018 Battle of Flowers - 127th Anniversary - The San Jacinto Descendants organization maintained a presence at the parade this year. The wreath was presented to stand in front of the Alamo. Hopefully our organization can increase the presence in future years with increased participants and an improved carriage design to eventually win First Place in the carriage category. The first Battle of Flowers in 1891 was the origins of what's now called Fiesta and was started to celebrate San Jacinto Day where in that first year only friends, neighbors, and descendants of the Texas veterans participated. It's amazing what Fiesta has grown into over 127 years.

I could use some help locating a grave, but not getting any responses to my emails I'd also like to become a member55 weeks ago The San Jacinto Descendants
I'm sorry you did not get an email response. Here is my recommendation: 1) To obtain an official membership application form, please email the Registrar General. You can find the email for the current Registrar General by clicking on their name on the following "Contact Us" website page. 2) For discussion related to locating a grave, please email the current current President or Vice President on the same "Contact Us" website. Thank you.
